Map Coverage: Antarctica

Features of Hike-and-Bike Maps
Hike-and-Bike maps are specifically designed for outdoor activities and recreational navigation. Based on up-to-date OpenStreetMap (OSM) data, they are ideal for hikers, cyclists, mountain bikers, bikepackers, travelers, tourists, and anyone using a Garmin GPS device or Garmin BaseCamp.
The maps offer excellent contrast, clearly distinguish different road types and trails, and provide a clean, easy-to-read layout. Subtle contour lines and hill shading improve terrain visualization, making route planning and navigation easier in both urban and remote areas.
All maps support turn-by-turn routing and can be used on compatible Garmin GPS devices as well as in Garmin BaseCamp. They also include a wide range of Points of Interest (POIs), such as restaurants, hotels, campsites, viewpoints, railway stations, fuel stations, and many other useful locations.
The maps are regularly updated using the latest OpenStreetMap data. Scheduled updates are released four times a year, at the beginning of January, April, July, and October.
If you would like to try the maps before purchasing, several free sample maps are available for download. Since all Hike-and-Bike maps are created using the same design and data processing methods, these test maps provide an excellent impression of the layout, features, and overall map quality.
The Antarctica map includes the following
- Garmin GPS device – installation image for microSD for the Garmin navigation device.
- Microsoft Windows – GMAP installation archive for Garmin BaseCamp.
- Apple macOS – GMAP archive for Garmin BaseCamp.

Where can you find the most beautiful hikes in Antarctica?
Antarctica offers some of the most unique and breathtaking hiking experiences in the world, with stunning landscapes, pristine wilderness, and opportunities to witness incredible wildlife.
- Lemaire Channel: Located off the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, the Lemaire Channel offers dramatic scenery with towering ice cliffs and mountains. Hiking along the shoreline or on nearby islands provides opportunities to see penguins, seals, and seabirds amidst the stunning icy landscapes.
- Cuverville Island: This small island, also situated in the Antarctic Peninsula region, features a relatively easy hike to a vantage point offering panoramic views of the surrounding glaciers and icebergs. It's also home to one of the largest Gentoo penguin colonies in Antarctica, providing fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities.
- Deception Island: This unique volcanic island in the South Shetland Islands offers opportunities for hiking along its rugged coastline and up to its volcanic caldera. Hikers can explore abandoned whaling stations and take in views of the dramatic landscape, including steaming beaches and geothermal areas.
Keep in mind that hiking in Antarctica is highly regulated and typically only allowed under the supervision of experienced guides and expedition staff. Visitors should always prioritize safety and environmental conservation while exploring this remote and pristine wilderness.
Where can you find the most beautiful cycle routes in Antarctica?
Cycling in Antarctica is extremely limited due to its harsh environment, icy terrain, and lack of infrastructure. The extreme cold temperatures, ice, and snow make traditional cycling impractical and unsafe. Additionally, most areas of Antarctica are protected wilderness zones where human activity is heavily regulated to minimize environmental impact.
